Ketevan Tsikhelashvili met newly appointed UNHCR Representative in the South Caucasus

The State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili met newly appointed United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Representative in the South Caucasus Johannes van der Klaauw.

Tsikhelashvili provided Johannes van der Klaauw with the information regarding the situation in Georgia’s occupied regions. Especially, human rights protection issues and activities of Georgian government for conflicts peaceful resolution. They also talked about the UNHCR ongoing humanitarian projects in Georgia aimed at providing assistance to people displaced from the occupied territories and the population still living there.

During the meeting they paid special attention the necessity of safe and dignified return of refugees and internally displaced persons to the places of their origin. The State Minister and UNHCR Representative in the South Caucasus also discussed the importance of the Geneva International Discussions.

The sides agreed to continue co-operation on issues of special priority to Georgia.
