31 January 2017
The State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili opened in Adjara Abkhaz language classes. Together with Zurab Pataradze, the Head of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, she visited Batumi school #14 and public school of the village of Peria.

In Peria the meeting with teachers and pupils / students of the Abkhaz language class was held. They prepared the literary exhibition, connected with the muhajirun and showed the performance "We'll be back" in Georgian and Abkhaz languages.

"This performance was about Georgian-Abkhaz relations. The tragedy that we experienced together and which divided our society. But it will unite us in order not to allow conflict and confrontation in the future. In order to make efforts for a better and peaceful future. These kids perfectly played their roles in this performance and I think this is the best sign that we can send today. Lots of Georgians, Abkhazians and mixed families live in this village. And today these people talk about reconciliation and peace. And they are doing it together in this village. And we should make it by the policy of involvement, reconciliation and conflicts peaceful resolution. I think that this generation - Georgian and Abkhazian pupils – that stood together on the stage, will be able to restore broken bridges "- said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.
She also noted that the protection of the Abkhaz language is the responsibility of the Georgian state.
"A few months ago, together with representatives of the Government of Adjara, I met here with our Abkhaz compatriots. I am glad that we were able to keep the promise and opened today Abkhaz language classes. All the more so here are lots of people, who want to learn this language. I want to thank the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara and those people who have been actively involved in the process. Teachers, who tirelessly work in these classes. The protection of the Abkhaz language, identity and culture is our responsibility. Abkhaz, like Georgian, is the official language of our country and in the future we will make more steps in this direction", - concluded the State Minister.
The meeting with teachers and students of the Abkhaz classes was held in the Batumi school #14. Besides, the Foundation for Education of Adjara and school directorate signed a memorandum on the functioning of the Abkhaz language class.
The study of the Abkhazian language in these schools was organized by the initiative of the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality of Georgia and with the support of the Chairman of Adjara AR Government. Lessons will be carried out 4 times a week.
