Ketevan Tsikhelashvili met with members of the mobility group on gender equality

The State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili met with members of the mobility group on gender equality. The meeting was held within the framework of the Office of the State Minister’s project "Youth for gender equality".

The main aim of the mobile group for gender equality - raising civic awareness in such issues, as the consequences of early marriages and domestic violence.

"In a few days these young people will start to work with the population of Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti on a voluntary basis. They will meet with students, their parents and teachers and provide them with information about women's rights and domestic violence. It should be mentioned that this is a very important issue, which is also a part of the Strategy of Civic Equality and Integration", - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.

The First Deputy State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Petre Kankava, the Representative of the State minister in the Region of Kvemo Kartli Zaur Dargali, Representatives of UN Association of Georgia Rusudan Chanturia and The United Nations Development Programme Tamar Sirbiladze also took part in this meeting.

Ten mobile groups on gender equality consist of 10 Azeri-speaking and 10 Georgian – speaking young people. They attended special training for trainers on domestic violence and early marriages issues. At this stage, they will hold meetings with the various target groups in densely populated by ethnic minorities villages in Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti.


The project is implemented by The United Nations Development Programme and UN Association of Georgia and the United Nations Association of Georgia "Tolerance, civil identity and integration support programme", as well as in partnership with the State Fund for the Protection and Assistance of (Statutory) Victims of Human Trafficking and the UN Population Fund.
