On February, 22, 2017, the 43rd meeting under the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) took place in Gali.
During the meeting the representatives of the central government of Georgia raised three main question - the detention of the murder of Giga Otkhozoria in the village of Khurcha on May 19, 2016, the release of Giorgi Lukava, who is in the prison of Abkhazia and the information about the closure of two crossing points.
Also the representatives of the central government of Georgia have requested the information about the whereabouts and health of Lukava. Representatives of Abkhazia confirmed that he is still in prison and his life and health is not threatened.
The announced closure of crossing points in Nabakevi and Meore Otobaia, and implications for local population living along the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) were touched on from both security and humanitarian perspectives. As the representatives of the central government of Georgia said, such steps will have negative impacts on the daily lives of locals who cross the ABL. Especially, for the movement of schoolchildren.
The next IPRM meeting in Gali will take place on 21 March 2017.
