Event, dedicated to the 73rd anniversary of deportation of the Chechen and Ingush people

The event, dedicated to the 73rd anniversary of deportation of the Chechen and Ingush people, was held in the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia.
Meeting was opened by the representative of the Office of the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality of Georgia Meka Hangoshvili, who talked about the importance of this day.
The First Deputy State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Mr. Petre Kankava, who also attended the meeting, told the participants that this deportation was “a grave tragedy” and that Georgians “stood together” with the Chechen and the Ingush people in their sufferings.
Elders from Georgia’s Pankisi gorge, populated predominantly by ethnic Kists, as well as a delegation from Ingushetia, were present at the event. Also video conference with a similar meeting in Ingushetia was conducted. Besides, participants had the opportunity to watch a documentary film directed by Hussein Erkenova "Ordered to forget", which deals with deportation.
This event was organized by the Office of the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality and the Vainakh community of Georgia.
