The State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili spoke at the “Liberty summit” in Albania.
The summit was held in Tirana. It was organized by the Alliance of Conservatives and Reformists in Europe. This international high-level conference had a particular focus on two key issues: the socio-economic legacy of communism, and the importance of secure private property rights.
In order to illustrate the postcommunist legacy the Berlin Wall was installed at the summit.
Ketevan Tsihelashvili noted in her speech the continuing occupation of Abkhazia and South Ossetia by Russia, the existing challenges, the course of Georgia development, the policy of reconciliation and involvement.
“Berlin Wall is down. But new walls are built in Georgia. Two regions of Georgia are isolated by barbed wire and the population is expelled from that territories. Today we are talking about the Soviet past and post-communism, about independence and freedom, but our struggle for freedom and independence has not yet ended. And the words that President Reagan told Gorbachev: "Mr. Gorbachev, destroy this wall," today the international community should address to Vladimir Putin. Despite the ongoing occupation, de facto annexation and pressure, our European and Euro-Atlantic development course remains unchanged and widely supported by the public. International support is of great importance on this path. It's good that we are discussing the past - communist repressions and the Soviet legacy, in order to be fully aware of what is happening today and to prevent the repetition of such actions in the future”, - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.

Representatives of conservative political parties, leaders and government representatives from more than 30 countries took part in the Liberty Summit.
