Ketevan Tsikhelashvili presented the information at the session held under the initiative of the Temporary Commission on Territorial Integrity Issues in which members from the European Integration, Foreign Relations, Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committees also participated. David Zalkaniani, First Deputy Minister of Foreing Affairs and Head of the Georgian Delegation in the Geneva Discussions also addressed the joint session.
The discussion also touched upon the challenges of the Geneva Talks, as well as the prospects for future development of the process. First Deputy State Minister noted that Geneva Talks is an important format in the context of Georgia - Russia relations, and that it is also important in that it is the format where security and humanitarian issues of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region are discussed. She also talked about the progress of the last three rounds of the Discussion:
"We take flexible and constructive position in every round of Geneva Talks. Also, we are always focused on concrete issues. The possibility of solving the problems that the local population faces is more likely in working group on humanitarian issues. We always state that there are acute humanitarian problems, urgent needs and that human rights are at stake which should not be a hostage to this situation. In this group, we constantly set and discuss problems concerning free movement and the problem of fortification along the dividing line. All these problems can be solved pragmatically, although, unfortunately, the attempt to change the format will damage the process", - said Ketevan Tsikhelashvili in a closed meeting.
At the end of the session, First Deputy State Minister answered questions by the members of the Parliamentary majority and minority factions.
