IDFI - Award for access public to information

Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) gave a special award to first Deputy State Minister of Georgia Ketevan Tsikhelashvili. Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) revealed the most accountable and most closed public institutions in context of the public information disclosure according to the research during the past year. Today, Giorgi Kldiashvili Director of IDFI and Levan Avalishvili Chairman of the Board of IDFI have introduced the results of the research to the Governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Prime-Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili also attended the presentation of the report. He thanked the organizers of the research for carried out work and noted that the ruling party is fulfilling the promise towards public about accountability.

As Levan Avalishvili noted during the presentation, after the 2013 parliamentary elections spreading the public information, especially from Government organizations, has significantly improved and the rate of 90% of answered questions was achieved. He also named the public institutions, which were given special award for "Providing public information accessibility 2012-2013". Among the awarded in this nomination was named the office of State Minister of Georgia for Reintegration.

"It’s very pleasant, that the office of State Minister of Georgia for Reintegration received this award. On today’s presentation it became clear that under the current government, the public access to the information has increased and it is the indicator, how public institutions became more transparent for society. This is very good and healthy trend, because, I think that access to public information is one of the most important characteristic of the democracy. Such initiatives from NGOs are useful and important", - sad Firs Deputy State Minister Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.

The disclosure of the public institutions have been carried out in the framework of the Project "Public Information Database - www.opendata.ge" with support of the Open Society Georgia Foundation.
