by the Russian military servicemen as a central subject into the agenda of Humanitarian Group at the 25th Round of Geneva Discussions.
"We have raised the problem of barbed wires and artificial barriers as a central subject at this round. We have emphasized dire humanitarian consequences that are caused by these artificial barriers for the local population. Particularly, the locals face the restricted freedom of movement, for which they have no access to their own lands, medical services and general education; this causes additional socio-economic problems and hinders communication between the communities. All of these problems have negative influence on the conditions of population. We have also discussed the human rights violations and other types of restrictions, which are particularly apparent in case of Gali and Aklhagori populations. Apart from identifying these problems, we have also expressed our readiness to seek ways for the solution of humanitarian problems, that was supported by the co-moderators of the discussions", - Ketevan Tsikhelashvili declared.
She added that Humanitarian Group has also discussed the issue of the return of IDPs.
"A thorough discussion was held on this subject. We have stressed that one of the main goals of the modality of the International Geneva Discussions is to solve the problem related with the return of IDPs. The fundamental right of return of IDPs was once again reiterated. Today’s discussion on the subject repeatedly confirms that the issue of the return of IDPs is one of the main subjects in the group which works on humanitarian issues and it will be featured in frames of our agenda again", - Ketevan Tsikhelashvili declared.
The Georgian Delegation of International Geneva Discussions is chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Mr. Davit Zalkaniani. The next round of discussions will be held on 17-18 December.
